sunshine camp

May 2, 2012

t-shirt design for austin’s sunshine camps. sunshine camps serve economically disadvantaged youth in central texas.  their programs strive to create a better future and stronger community through mentoring, education and personal development of low-income youth. feels good to do creative work that serves a good purpose! a great set of photo galleries of the kids in action is here; the barton springs gallery is my favorite.

e.a.s.t.

March 19, 2012

the east austin studio tour is a big deal here in austin. artists, galleries and some retail/restaurants collaborate for the sake of being creative. i was fortunate enough to be hosted by the fabulous east side showroom, a depression-era set restaurant with all locally grown and raised food. my pieces fit well, which was a bonus. big thanks to mickie spencer for having me show during such a great event. e.a.s.t. took place during october and since then the pieces that are still for sale have made it to gallery 26 in little rock and to grayDUCK gallery in austin. i also have a few here at the studio for sale. take a lookie!

“brand” spankin’ new.

January 31, 2012

in 2011, i accumulated a nice collection of logo designs for some great companies. branding is a design challenge i enjoy and am always ready to take on. working with clients on finding a visual “face” for their company is a process i enjoy and work hard for the client to enjoy.

if you know of an up-and-coming company looking for solid logo representation or one in need of revamping their existing logo, send them my way … yes, more shameless self-promo.

new year. new designs.

peace …

December 24, 2011

merry christmas, everyone!

each year, for the past 4 years, i have sent out holiday cards i created. whether they be illustrated, hand-made or designed, they are all unique to that season. this year i incorporated each of those elements: illustration, “handmade-ness” and design. i’m a big fan of pop-up children’s books, so that was my inspiration for this hands on, rotating christmas card. and yes, it’s all done by hand.

ps: if you did not receive a card this year it’s not because i don’t love you. i am horrible at keeping track of my address book.

pps: thank you to writer and friend kyran pittman for today’s post on her highly successful blog, “planting dandelions”!

thom’s best.

November 28, 2011

thom’s market in austin, tx, prides itself in the fact that they sell the best. the best wine, the best beer, the best chocolate … the best variety. it is a fun, laid-back specialty store, welcome to anyone. i strolled along each aisle, falling in love with so many labels and packaging elements. i love package design (sidenote: know anyone needing to hire a designer for packaging?). here is a collection of snapshots i took in the store that i thought were some of the best. tasty AND look good!

11.11.11

November 11, 2011

first off, happy veterans day. i don’t think there’s anyone out there who is not connected to someone who has served.  my uncle, cousin, grandfather … salut!

secondly, i am proud to announce the opening of the current art exhibit at the historic arkansas museum’s trinity gallery. continuing the series inspired by natural southern beauty, antique pistols, heartache, travel and the like, the walls are filled with my multi-media works. i share the exhibit with brett anderston, who’s sculptures are organic and strong. they scatter the floors with a heavy presence and are well constructed. the balance between he and myself works well. please come and support the show! during the opening tonight there will be dancers performing from ballet arkansas, blacksmithing demonstrations and lark in the morning playing their sweet tunes.

please come! here is a preview for you:

austin art interview!

September 9, 2011

i’m excited to announce my interview with metroseeker.com!

this site is an “online residential guidebook, but it’s much more than that: unlike traditional living-shopping-culture guides, MetroSeeker uncovers the essence of the place and of the people. If you’re going to make a life somewhere, you’ll want to go beyond the obvious.” the site “features a variety of aspects that are not covered in traditional guidebooks.”

i was selected to be a featured austin artist!
